Sculptra Wrinkle Treatment

Sculptra is not a filler, but is a sculpting agent, filling depressions and removing wrinkles by promoting new collagen production in the skin. One of it’s greatest assets is that with the production of new collagen, it lasts much longer that some of the other treatments.

Sculptra is a poly-L-lactic acid implant suitable for increasing the volume of depressed facial areas and particularly for correcting skin folds and depressions, wrinkles, scars, eye rings and for rejuvenating the aging skin. It is also the treatment of choice for large volume corrections of the signs of facial fat loss commonly known as lipoatrophy.

How does it work?

The Sculptra treatment is implanted into the subcutaneous and intradermal layers of the skin through a small needle. Depending on the age and the skin of each patient, the treatment normally needs to be repeated two more times after the initial treatment at 6-week intervals, during which time the collagen builds up slowly achieving the desired results. By following the three golden rules of Sculptra treatment: Treat, Wait and Assess, we can sculpt your face gradually to achieve a brilliant long term result.

Does it hurt?

The treatment takes 15-30 minutes and a very small needle and the pain is therefore minimal. A local anaesthetic cream or an ice pack can be applied beforehand to reduce the pain even further.

How long do the effects last?

The results become apparent gradually as the collagen builds up, but having completed the usual course treatments, the results can last as long as 2 years.

Is it safe?

The poly-L-lactic acid in Sculptra is a polymer the likes of which have been used in surgery in the form of dissolving stitches for over 25 years. It is biocompatible (a material which does not harm the body) and biodegradable (able to be broken down by the body naturally), and as it is produced synthetically an allergy test is not necessary. In time it is completely broken down, and even though some long term side-effects have been reported, these are extremely rare. More than 150,000 patients have been treated with Sculptra since 1999 with great success.

Does it look natural?

With the natural process of restoration of lost collagen, Sculptra gives back a long-lasting natural beauty.

Are there any side effects?

The most common side effects with the use of Sculptra include tenderness, bleeding, bruising, redness and swelling at the injection site.
