Neck fat, sometimes referred to as turkey neck, can be a difficult area to fix through exercise alone.
As we age, it becomes tougher to get rid of unwanted fat around our body. Neck fat is essentially caused by the same thing that causes all excess fat – too much body weight and obesity. It can however be separated into two categories: submental, occurring below your jaw, and subplatysmal fat which refers to the fat found around the muscles of the neck.
While not always the case, fat in the neck can be closely associated with some of the known risks for heart trouble, such as diabetes and high cholesterol. Neck fat can also increase the risk of sleep apnea by closing off the airways in the throat. This can be a dangerous condition as it temporarily stops breathing while sleeping.
